Founder of Megaupload Accused Hollywood of Promoting Piracy

The founder of Megaupload Kim Dotcom gave his first interview after his release from custody. He told the reporters that the filesharing service has always been legal, and its activity has never been contrary to law. According to Dotcom, piracy, what he is accused of, is cultivated by the movie companies and not by the users and services, such as Megaupload.

Kim Dotcom said that the current U.S. business model of content distribution is obsolete and the amount of piracy is increasing  because of it. Special role is played by the licensing model, which Hollywood uses for its projects.

“For example, European viewers can often see the movie much later than American. Hollywood turns the TV commercials around the world and then shows the film only in the U.S. And some 14-year-old French or German will not want to wait another six months for the official release, “- was said by the founder of Megaupload in the interview.

Dotcom is sure that he will prove his innocence, in which he has no doubt, and destroy “this political case”.

February 22, Kim Dotcom was released by New Zealand court without any cash collateral. Local authorities considered the arrested millions of dollars of funds sufficient enough to ensure that Dotcom won’t dare to violate the rules and leave the country without permission.
