What to do during earthquake?

How to prepare for earthquake?
Think about the premeditated plan of actions during an earthquake in finding the home, at work, in the cinema, the theater, in transport and on the street. Explain to your family members, what they need to do during an earthquake and teach them the rules of first aid. Keep in a convenient location the  documents, money, a flashlight and extra batteries. Keep at the house the drinking water and canned goods, based on a few days. Remove the beds away from windows and exterior walls. Secure the cabinets, shelves and racks in the apartments, and from  the upper shelves and mezzanines remove the heavy objects. The hazardous substances (pesticides, flammable liquids) must be stored in a safe, well-isolated location. Adult family members should know how to disconnect an apartment, block the main gas and water taps, if it`s necessary, to turn off the electricity, gas and water.

What to do during an earthquake

In the building

Feeling the vibrations of the building, saw the swing of the lamps, falling of the objects, hearing the roar of the rising and the sound of breaking glass, do not panic. If you are in the 2-3-storey building, it is the best to leave it quickly. Run out quickly, but carefully. If it`s possible, bring your documents, money, daily necessities, flashlight. Beware of the falling objects, broken wires and other hazards. Move immediately away from the building into the open places. Stay calm and try to reassure the others. If you are on the upper floors of the high-rise building, stay in the building, pre-open the front door, which (in the future) may be skewed and jammed. Quickly take a most secure place in the room: in the doorways of the capital walls, at the closest to the building`s center the main wall, the supporting column, in the corner of the room, directly in the bath, which can accommodate, at least, the children, and always away from the windows, heavy objects and furniture that may tip over. First of all, provide care for children, the disabled and the elderly. Remember that all high-rise buildings under construction on the projects, that take into account the degree of seismicity of this area. You do not need to fear that it will collapse, even when the lights go out, you`ll hear a noise from the beating of the dishes, cracking walls and falling objects. This may even destroy the walls, to fall down some attachments and architectural details of the facades. In the case of the building destruction, accompanied by a drop of the individual elements or parts of the ceiling or capital walls, you should immediately leave the building. Leaving the building, do not jump out of the windows, located above the first floor, glasses knock out with the improvised means (chair, stool), in the extreme case, with a hand wrapped in a cloth.

On the street

During pushes do not go into the building and do not run around them. It is the best to stay out on the open place, away from buildings and power lines. If you still have appeared next to the tallest building, stand in a doorway, it will protect you from falling debris of the windows, balconies, cornices and parapets.

Remember: the source of the increased danger are underground utilities, especially pipes with hot water and steam, as well as the gas supply system of your home.

In the transport

Any transport must be stopped quickly as far as possible, because some buildings and other things could collapse from the strong shocks (these can be the high buildings, overpasses, bridges, power lines). Drivers should avoid the traffic congestion on the roads and intersections overlap, respect each other. Try to drive around the center and narrow passages. Drivers of the buses and trams stopping vehicles have to open all the doors, and then, after the first shock, monitor the compliance with the rules, when leaving the vehicle. It is not necessary to beat and break the glass while going to the direction of the door, creating a crush and a deliberate risk of injury. Provide the assistance to children, the elderly and the disabled.

Be calm! As soon as possible, leave the cars and buses.
