According to the scientists in the United States each year, at least, six million men suffer from the depressive disorders. Research and clinical data show that although men and women may manifest the standard symptoms of the depression, but they are experiencing the depression differently and may have different methods to overcome it. Men are more likely to complain about the severe fatigue, irritability, loss of the interest in their work or hobbies, and sleep disturbances than about the anxiety, insolvency and excessive guilt.

Rather than to admit that they actually feel and ask for any help, or receive the appropriate treatment, men are starting to use the alcohol or drugs when they are depressed or frustrated, discouraged, angry and irritable and, at times, abused other people. While struggling the depression, some men force themselves away to go to work hard, and thus try to hide the fact of the depression`s existence from themselves, from family and friends; others respond too much to the depression, they behave recklessly, lose all possible caution and put themselves in a dangerous position.

In the United States in 4 times more men (than women) die by suicide, despite the fact that during the life of a woman more attempts are taking to commit the suicide. Apart from the fact that methods of the suicide resorted by the men, usually more fatal than those methods which are resorted by women, there are obviously other reasons, protecting women from death due to the suicide. In the results of the research indicating that suicide is often associated with the depression, the alarming suicide rate among the men reflects the fact that the probability that they will want to be treated for the depression, is less. A plurality of the men with the depression do not put the appropriate diagnosis and they do not pass the appropriate treatment that can save their lives.

What can help you to fight alone against the depression:

• light exercises, going to watch a movie, a ballgame, or participating in the religious, social, or other activities may be useful;

• determine the realistic (for developing the depression) goals and take on a reasonable number of the responsibilities;

• asking for the big goal, break it into a few smaller, determine the principal for yourself and do what you can as you can do it;

• try to be with other people and confide in someone; it is usually better than being alone and being secretive;

• take part in the things which can make you feel better;

• expect that your spirits will not rise immediately, but will rise slowly; to ensure that you feel better, you need some period of time; often during the treatment of the depression first improve the appetite and sleep, and then the mood;

• it is recommended to delay the important decisions until the depression has not yet held; before deciding on the major changes in your life like the another job, marriage or divorce, discuss it with other people who know you well enough, and then you will have a more objective view of the situation;

• people rarely get out of the depression “in one fell swoop”, but they can every day  feel better and better;

• please note that once your treatment for the depression will be successful, the ability to think positively replace a negative thinking which was the part of the depression;
