1. The tablecloth and napkins.

It is better if they are the of same color, preferably white or any of pastel shades (Italians generally prefer light colors). Napkins are placed on the left of the dishes, for informal feasts it is permissible to put a napkin on the right of the dishes, or directly on the plate (if it is equipped with a special napkin ring or decorative ribbon). You can use the famous red checkered tablecloths and napkins, which are often found in Italian restaurants. Or lay the table in the colors of the national flag: green, white and red.

2. Cutlery.

If you had inherited a set of silverware from your grandmother, it is likely to get them out of the trunk: silver, vintage has always been honored especially in Italy. The plates are usually white. Ideally, if all the plates are white and only decorative dishes underneath – made of silver. If you serve soup, do not forget about tablespoons. if cooking creamy dessert – about the miniature dessert spoon. Unusual cutlery for fowl or snails is usually served separately on a tray directly before the bizarre dish.

3. Glasses / accessories.

Italians prefer the glasses in the form of a cup.The presence of a single glass of slightly larger glasses for water and two glasses for wine is also possible:   medium-sized glass for red wine and the smaller one – for white wine. Always “build” glasses in the shape of a triangle on the “growth”: from the smallest, located right next to the dish, to the largest, away from the plates. But these accessories are non grata in Italy – we talk about the ashtray that has no place on the table.

4. Bread plate.

Probably for many people its location – is one of the biggest gaps in serving. So, this mysterious plate for bread should be placed to the left of the main dishes, from the side of your heart, that may be easier to remember.

Italians love to use food in the design of the table. You can  arbitrarily expand cherry tomatoes, artichokes, basil or tufts of curly pasta on the tablecloth, and spaghetti or grissini should be put into a transparent glass, bandaged with the elegant ribbon.
