How to feel safe and secure on the train or bus?

What are the basic rules of safety on the train? If you expect the trip on the train, the general safety principles are the same as in the subway, but there are a number of specific features:

• Try to get tickets to carriages that are in the middle of the train.

• Provided that the places in the train are only for seating, preferably are those, that are against the motion of the train.

• If you have companions and feel the distrust, try not to fall asleep.

• Do not turn off the light in the compartment, keep the door closed.

The general rules that can help you to minimize the risk:

• If it`s possible, it is better to seat in the carriages, which are in the middle of the train, as in the case of accidents they suffer less than others.

• If someone was on the tracks, and the help of other passengers is needed, one person should head for the exit of the tunnel to give the signals to the engineer of the train, waving colorful cloth, and two others urgently need to made aware of the incident to underground employees.

• If the person, located on the rails, is able quickly to get to the platform, not touching the contact rail, he should have the support. If this is not possible, the victim must be immediately recommended to get to the end of the station, lie there between the rails, and remain in that position before the train left.

• If you find out that someone left things, do not touch them, and inform the police or metro workers. In any case, from the suspicious things it`s better to be as far away. In addition, it should be remembered that in the subway is better to stand than sit, because the explosive devices can be hidden under the seats.

If as a result of a terrorist act, an explosion occurred, and the train stopped in the tunnel, you must use the following guidelines:

• Open the door of the carriage, but in any case do not try to leave it right now. This can be done only after the contact rail will be disabled. The fact that the power is off, and in which direction to move, the driver must report.

• Avoid touching the metal parts of the carriage. If a tunnel filled with smoke, cover your mouth and nose with a cloth and try to lie on the floor of the carriage. This will help you not to suffocate.

• If the conditions permit, wait for the lifesavers.

What are the basic safety rules on the bus?

Basic personal safety measures that should be taken, when you are traveling on public land transport (buses, trolleybuses, trams) are very similar to those measures, that should be used on an airplane. There are, however, some of the features:

• Carefully inspect the interior, to ensure that no suspicious objects and personalities are there, as well as remember where are the emergency exits and fire extinguisher.

• An assault of the public ground vehicle is much faster than the assaulting of the plane.

• If you feel that an assault is inevitable, try to stay away from the windows so as not to interfere with snipers firing at the terrorists.

If terrorists are shooting…

On the streets of our cities unfortunately is frequent the incidents involving the  firearms. Shooting may not necessarily be linked to terrorism: it may be a criminal, domestic, or bullying.

Hearing the shots on the street, we hasten to the window to see what is going on, oblivious to the fact that we ourselves can be the victim of a stray bullet or a sniper. Therefore, if you heard the shooting (and you are in the university or school):

• Do not stand near the window, do not allow students (pupils) to it, even if it is closed by the curtains.

• Do not climb above the sill, even if you take out the child.

• Do not allow the students (pupils) to enter the room, from which the shots are heard.

• If you encounter the strangers, and then you came upon the wounded, provide the assistance to the victim, call the police and ambulance.

• If the person (especially child) was alone at home, when he heard the gunshots on the street or in the stairwell, he should call the police and do not fit to the window or the door. Even if they will call and say that it is the police, he had to shout that the door can not be open.

• If the shooting found you on the street, lay to the ground and try to crawl behind the  cover (corner of the house, flowerbed, bus stop), if there is not anything like that, cover your head with your hands and lay still. When everything calms down, you can get up and, changing the route, reach your destination.

• Schoolchildren should always have on clothing the sewn label with their name, surname and phone number, as well as medication contraindications, if they have any.
