In Russia, state that “take measures” in response to NATO actions

Russian Federation has already taken and will continue to take action in connection with the strengthening of NATO‘s eastern borders. This was stated by Russia’s permanent representative to NATO Alexander Grushko.

“Measures have already been taken, and they will be accepted. They will be well-adjusted and based on an analysis of what NATO is doing in the region”, – said Grushko.

He noted that “no real reason to deploy additional NATO forces in these areas, significantly enhance the military forces and to increase the density of the exercise, do not exist”.

According to him, the 2015 NATO exercises involving up to 40 thousand people, which will be held in Portugal, Italy and Spain, will be the first exercise of this magnitude since the Cold War.

“All these plans exist on paper. It was not an ideological explanation for this increased activity. NATO is actively uses the crisis in Ukraine as such ideological explanation to revive the Alliance, to prove its relevance in the new security environment and to achieve strengthening of military activity and the increase in military spending” – Grushko said.

Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the actions of the Alliance, in particular, the increase in the number of military exercises, is a response to the aggressive policy of Russia.
