PayPal eyeing the Russian market

PayPal has taken the strategic decision to enter the Russian market and in fact waiting for the enactment of the national payment system. On this once told RBC daily three sources (which, hopefully, not conspired among themselves to play this edition in honor of April 1).

Currently, PayPal allegedly negotiating with the “big three” Russian mobile operators: the company, as explained by one source, “seeks to use the subscriber base of cellular operators for their own purposes.”

Two of the three – MTS and VimpelCom – confirmed that interacted with PayPal. “MegaFon” refrained from comment, but because PayPal has not been answered yet.

“PayPal has consulted with us on the possibilities of using personal account for payment. We are interested in further cooperation,” – said spokeswoman Irina Osadchaya MTS. VimpelCom also said the consultation with PayPal and says he is “ready to consider the possibility of joint cooperation.”

According to insiders, PayPal looks forward to the long-suffering law on the national payment system and may open a representative office in Russia for one-half years. They also say that the company’s interests extend to other CIS countries, and that she is looking out for Russian market independently, without the organization of partnerships with some of the existing payment systems.

Recall that last summer, rumors about negotiations with PayPal WebMoney and Yandex, which apparently came to nothing.

It should be noted that the inhabitants of the CIS and now have the opportunity to pay by PayPal, but only “one way”: they can pay for services tied to a bank card account, but can not get themselves in this system of money. Accordingly, using PayPal is possible unless paying for the services of foreign natural persons and companies, including shopping on the auction site eBay, where PayPal is now owned.

From the collected RBC daily gossip is not yet clear whether it was just about to pay for services of mobile operators through PayPal, or will also do PayPal-account of Russian Internet users full. Without a fully functional “PayPal Seal” hardly count on the loyalty of the Russians.

By the way, “Yandex”, which until recently had the right to use only the residents of Russia, in recent weeks have made two major steps (times two) to meet the residents of other CIS countries. We must assume that in the near future this system will do a third, very important step – allowing them to withdraw funds from their e-wallets.
