During the meeting, NATO-Ukraine, the Ukrainian government has notified the representatives of the Alliance, that Kiev refuses non-aligned status. This was said in Brussels by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
“Earlier, Ukraine formally adhered to the position of non-alignment. Now, the government announced that Ukraine loses that status, and this solution we also respect. And if Ukraine will apply for membership in NATO, this application will be reviewed”, – said Stoltenberg.
The fact of the notification of the decision of the Alliance confirmed on Twitter Ambassador at Large MFA of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba.
“In Paul Klimkina’s phrase that abandon non-aligned status for the first time disappeared relationship with Brussels. Restore. The phrase is repeated. We heard”, – he wrote.

In this regard, Stoltenberg separately emphasized that the Alliance believes the current decision of the Bucharest NATO Summit 2008 on the Euro-Atlantic prospects of Ukraine.
“We still hold the view that Ukraine will become a member of NATO“, – he said.
At the same time, the final decision on the application for entry and, accordingly, the entry must take the Ukrainian side, Secretary General stressed.
“We will respect the decision of Ukraine to apply, if it is taken. And just as we respect if it is decided not to to apply”, – said Stoltenberg.
