Odessa – a splendid ukrainian city that is worth visiting!

Odessa – is a splendid city in southern Ukraine. The administrative center of the Odessa region and the main naval base of the Naval Forces of Ukraine.

The population of the city on April 1, 2014 is 997,853 residents. Odessa is the third largest city in the country. The city is located on the shore of the Gulf of Odessa Black Sea.

September, 2, 1794, with the blessing of Metropolitan Ekaterinoslavski Tauride and Gabriel (Banulescu Bodoni) the first pile of foundation of future Odessa were scored.

There are also many other ancient cities with splendid architecture in Ukraine.

Let’s talk about some interesting facts about Odessa.

– In the whole continental Europe there is right-hand traffic. The exception to this rule is a Parisian street 350 meters in length – Avenue of General Lemonnier. Here the movement is organized by the left-handed version. There are sites with partial left-hand traffic and Odessa – in High Lane and the Boulevard des Italiens.That was made ​​to unloade adjacent streets from traffic jams.

– Pushkin was exiled to Ekaterinoslav in 1820.

– Sources of drinking water in Odessa are called fountains. These sources have given the informal name for urban areas. – In 1913 the Odessa football team became the champion of the Odessa Russian Empire Cup.

– May, 9, 2010, ​​the world’s largest St. George’s ribbon was made in Odessa. Its area is more than 850 square meters with a weight of 200 kilograms. The length coincides with the length of the Potemkin stairs that this ribbon covered.

Odessa Opera and Ballet Theater is also worth visiting.
