Antihistamines and child vaccination. Preparation for vaccination

“Do I need to give my child an antihistaminic before vaccination”? – many parents are interested in this question.

Generally accepted recommendations (World Health Organization and the American Pediatric Association) consist in the fact that the children should not be given any antihistamines as preparation for the vaccination.

First and the most important condition before vaccination are normal life conditions of your baby.

At the time of vaccination the child should be healthy. Body temperature must be normal, and that there should be no other complaints. Behavior, mood, appetite, sleep should be as always.

The doctor may not know that the night before the baby was capricious, or that morning for some reason he did not finish his favorite yogurt. But mother is obliged to respond. To watch and wait, to postpone the vaccination. Finally, no one can feel the condition of the child better than his mom. If you doubt – this is the real reason to do clinical (common) blood test the day before vaccination.

Before vaccination

Before the first vaccination with DTP vaccine it is necessary to make a general analysis of blood and urine, as well as to get neurologist’s permission for the vaccination.

If you have a child allergic disorders (diathesis, etc.), you should discuss it  with your doctor in advance to build a scheme preventing aggravation of allergies. Usually, antihistamines are welcomed  2 days before the vaccination and 2 days after.

On the day of vaccination

Do not give your child a new kind of foods. If the child is breastfed – do not include new food  into your diet. Do not forget to take antihistamines and other drugs that are prescribed by a doctor.

Make sure that you’ve got paracetamol or ibuprofenum in case of possible  fever.
